4 Jewelry Trends to Adopt from this Season's Runway Shows

Here at Studio L Jewelry, it’s immensely important to us to keep informed on what’s going on in the world of fashion. Runway shows by top designers often seem to the outsider as fantasy or works of art more than actual fashion, but to the trained eye, it’s easy to pick out the key pieces that will become seasonal favorites.

While scouring designer collections for inspiration, we noticed some wearable trends that can be easily applied to any wardrobe. There is lots to love in the world of fashion design right now, but we had to narrow it down so we chose the styles that will work best for busy women that have to make the early morning meeting or just want to look fabulous on the office holiday party.

The first thing you need to know is that the 80’s are back, baby!

Believe it or not, this image was taken in 2018, not 1988. Left to right: Marc Jacobs, Miu Miu, Saint Laurent, Tom Ford, Versace

After quite a few years of the 90’s feel being everywhere, the time machine has gone even further back to bring the power looks from the decade that redefined office wear. Velvet chokers and delicately beaded bracelets have been traded in for prominent earrings and statement necklaces. Big is definitely better this season, and it’s time to unleash prominent pieces and bold combinations.

Another trend that seems to be everywhere is the return of pearl jewelry which is so prevalent, we had to devote a separate post to it.

Here are a few runway favorites, that can be adapted to work with any personal style:

Western Vibes

Suede fringe, Western prints, and cowboy-inspired boots were shown on the runway by designers from Cloe to Calvin Klein. Translated to the language of jewelry that spells out leather, feather and bolo ties.

Associated with the old west, bolo ties were actually invented in the 1940s. Their design influences many contemporary pieces.

We suggest adopting this trend to an extent but opting for less overt pieces that won’t look like a costume. Lariat necklaces and pieces that incorporate leather-like fabric are the way to go.

Rhinestone Bling

OK, rhinestones are more than a trend, they’re an automatic mood booster, especially in the winter, when it’s dark outside and our drab winter clothes need a little pick-me-up. But the 80’s wave that washed over runways everywhere, makes them especially hot right now.

Rhinestones work well with any color.
We say: bring on the sparkle!

Happy Hoops

Gold hoop earrings are a jewelry staple that always finds it’s way into fashion. This season saw a multitude of creative interpretations for this classic, with some designers going as far as connecting a multitude of hoops to create a slinky.

Circles are a basic motif that has endless interpretations.
We think it’s better to leave those high school hoops in the drawer and instead advise choosing more sophisticated pieces that are inspired by this trend.

Go Big or Go Home

As we said before, this is not a time for the understated, delicate and flimsy accessories, and as far as we’re concerned, that’s pretty amazing! The trend for statement pieces and inspiration from an era that broke so many rules means you can get creative and bold. Large-scale jewelry is also a seasonal favorite because it works well with heavy winter clothes. Your beloved shaggy sweater can be dressed up with a prominent necklace and or eye-catching earrings.
